Glass Options For Frameless Shower Doors

Without question, the traditional look of the frameless shower enclosure is that of clear glass.

But there are situations that will call for a glass type with a bit of character or for a glass that has less “green” coloring than traditional clear glass. And for those reasons, ATM Is happy to offer an extensive line of glass options for frameless enclosures. Our ability to buy direct from the glass manufacturers has enabled us to offer unique products, able to accommodate any shower enclosure requirement.

Standard Clear Glass

Available in 3/8" or 1/2" thickness. Note, standard clear glass has a more apparent green tint.

The thicker the glass, the more apparent the green edge will be- as you are looking through “more glass”

remember: small samples of glass will always appear less green than larger pieces (see "Why Does Clear Glass Look Green"). Similar in concept to looking out at the ocean and it appears blue, but a cup of water from the ocean will appear clear.

Starphire Low Iron Glass

Starphire: Available in 3/8" or 1/2" thickness

Shown here as the "top" piece, starphire glass has much of the iron content removed from the glass. Some iron is still required in order for the glass to remain temperable and to ensure its structural integrity.

Note: Small samples of this product (like shown here) can be deceiving. As small pieces, low iron glass appears extremely clear, however the larger the piece, the iron content is more obvious.

Starphire: on edge has an "aqua" color.

ATM recommends Starphire Glass when a white or light colored tile is being used- as in these cases, the green content of clear glass will be much more obvious, giving your shower enclosure a distinct green appearance.

Walker Velour

Available in 3/8" or 1/2” thickness.

Acid etched glass. The velour finish is characterized by its smooth surface and lower light transmittance providing a higher level of opacity. Velour can be applied to standard clear glass or starphire low iron glass.
